*Programming has become an increasingly crucial skill in the digital era, however, many students face significant challenges in grasping fundamental programming concepts, particularly in the Python programming language. This study aims to evaluate the difficulties encountered by students in understanding basic Python programming concepts and to identify the contributing factors behind these challenges. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a quantitative survey involving 200 participants and qualitative interviews with 20 students. The research findings indicate that most students struggle with programming logic, syntax, and data structures, primarily due to theoretical teaching approaches and a lack of practical experience. These results highlight the importance of developing more interactive and application-oriented teaching methods, as well as enhancing academic support to help students overcome obstacles in learning programming. *Pemrograman adalah kemampuan yang semakin krusial di zaman digital, tetapi banyak mahasiswa menghadapi tantangan dalam grasping konsep dasar pemrograman, terutama dalam bahasa Python. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi tantangan yang dialami mahasiswa dalam memahami konsep dasar pemrograman Python serta mengidentifikasi elemen-elemen yang berkontribusi terhadap tantangan tersebut. Metode yang diterapkan adalah pendekatan kombinasi, yang meliputi survei kuantitatif dengan 200 partisipan dan wawancara kualitatif dengan 20 mahasiswa. Temuan riset mengindikasikan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa menghadapi tantangan besar dalam bidang logika pemrograman, sintaksis, dan struktur data, yang dipengaruhi oleh pendekatan pengajaran yang bersifat teoritis dan minimnya pengalaman praktis.
